DENTAL SURGEONS
Dr Ian Hallam MBE,BDS
Ian is the principal dental surgeon and owner of Meon Dental. His passion is creating beautiful smiles, providing perfect function of the occlusion and enhancing facial beauty using the latest non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments.
Ian qualified at Birmingham University in 1971, and after working in general practices in Nottingham, Derby, and Havant, bought a multiple practice in Fareham, before establishing Meon Dental in 1988.
During his student days, Ian was selected for the Olympic Games as a racing cyclist and subsequently became a double Olympic medallist, World Championship medallist and triple Commonwealth Champion. He was awarded an MBE for services to sport in 1978. After retiring from cycle racing, Ian took up windsurfing and went on to finish 5th in the Windsurfing World championships.
Ian has a very understanding and caring approach to nervous patients and has been treating patients using sedation techniques for over 30 years.
He is a member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Association of Dental Implantology and the International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics.
Ian is married with one son who is working in the music industry in London, one step-son who also works in London, a daughter who is studying massage and beauty treatments, and a young daughter who is still at school.
Dr Nicola May BDS, BA Hons
Nicky qualified at Bristol Dental Hospital in 1989 and joined Meon Dental in 1990.
Nicky carries out all aspects of general dentistry and is particularly keen on prevention.
She has two children, a boy and a girl, who are both school age. She is a parent governor at a local junior school. When time allows, she plays the piano and is currently researching her family tree.
Dr Leo Roche BDS
Leo qualified from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1981 and spent the first 6 years of his career in the Royal Air Force. On leaving he went into general practice in Buckinghamshire and was also appointed senior store dentist to Marks and Spencer in Milton Keynes and as visiting dental officer to both a psychiatric rehabilitation prison and an open prison. He was also Chairman of the Parish Council for 6 years.
Leo joined Meon Dental in early 2008 after moving to live near Petersfield to re-marry. He has two daughters, one working as a paramedic and the other studying criminology.
Outside dentistry Leo's interests encompass family life, caving, scrambling, canyoning, via ferrata, hill walking and scuba diving.
THE TEAM
Sara Davies EDH, DIP, DHE, FETC - Hygienist
Sara qualified as a hygienist at Guys Hospital, London. She also gained a teaching certificate and diploma in Dental Health Education and lectured in Dental Health Education at South London College. She has worked as a hygienist in several practices and hospitals and, for a period, at the Bank of England!
Sara joined Meon Dental in 1999. She attends local and national meetings to keep up to date with the latest research and current guidelines and, with other colleagues, has formed a local study group. She is a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
Sara's philosophy as a hygienist is to establish a friendly but professional rapport with the patient and work with the dentist to provide the best treatment possible for each individual patient.
Sara is married to a consultant for the NHS. She has one son who is training to be a barrister and one daughter at university who is studying on an outward-bound leisure management course.
Charlotte Wake EDH, EDT - Dental Therapist/Hygienist
Charlotte qualified in 2005 with two separate diplomas in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy from St Bartholomew's and the London Queen Mary's school of Medicine and Dentistry. She has worked with Dr Hallam since 2006.
Charlotte qualified receiving awards for the highest mark, the most outstanding clinical work and for outstanding communication skills. She has written articles that have been published in ‘Team in Practice' journals and in the ‘Dental Hygiene' journal. She was also a finalist for ‘Dental Therapist of the Year' in 2007.
Her hobbies include reading, attending the theatre and she is currently tracing her family tree.
